Art, Fashion, Body, Planet

Kathy Battista

This seminar investigates the relationship between contemporary art, fashion and textiles. How have contemporary artists—Pia Camil, K8 Hardy, John Bock, Wendy Red Star, and others—embraced garments and textiles, liberating these objects and materials from 'craft' to 'fine art'. We will discuss how the use of garments as art and related exhibitions relate to both the fashion industry as well as recent trends in fashion design including upcycling and swap economies.
